When I began this site I did not quite fathom just how much this band had touched folks. I began receiving wonderful letters and comments. I decided to share a few just to show how very special this band is. They were incredibly talented and I would rate Toy's guitar playing up there with Clapton and Knopler. He and Tommy definitely had their own style....The world and Rock and Roll lost so very much when they were taken....Lynn Tolleson Goen ------------------------------ This site is awesome! So glad you created this in recognition to the original line up. Tell Abby thanks for all the sacrifices she made for us to enjoy Toy's music. Will visit everyday looking for new stuff!!!! God Bless... ------------------------------
MY NAME IS JOHN BREEDEN. I'M AN OLD A FRIEND OF GEORGE MCCORKLE. HE WAS
AN INSPIRATION TO ME AS A FLEDGING BLUES HARP PLAYER, AND GAVE ME MANY
POINTERS ON PLAYING AND PERFORMING. HE WAS GENEROUS WITH ALLOWING ME TO
SIT IN WITH HIS BAND WHEN BOTH HE AND I KNEW THAT I WASN'T NEARLY GOOD
ENOUGH TO DO SO. HE ALSO GAVE MY SON ONE OF HIS GUITARS WHO WASN'T QUITE
OLD ENOUGH TO TRULY APPRECIATE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THAT ACT. GEORGE LEFT
CONWAY, SOUTH CAROLINA FOR NASHVILLE AND HAS BEEN THERE EVER SINCE.
GEORGE AND THE REST OF THE MTB TRULY DESERVE TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK
AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. THEIR MUSIC WAS UNIQUE AND WAS A MAJOR FORCE ALONG
WITH THE ALLMAN BROTHERS AND SKYNARD IN CREATING AN ENTIRELY NEW GENRE OF
MUSIC CALLED SOUTHERN ROCK. ------------------------------ One of the original jam bands that had both blues and jazz roots. They were unforgettable if you ever experienced them live.....F. Michael Edgar ------------------------------ An outstanding collection of musicians that deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. They set the standard for Southern crossover rock/country music....David Dachis ------------------------------ MTB inspired me in my music life very much.I have always admired them with much respect. They made me realize that your goals can be reached if you reach high enough. One of the highlights in my musical career is when Toy Caldwell played a show with me one night in Spartanburg. This has been forever locked in my memory and so is MTB. Yes, they very well deserve to be inducted into the hall-of-fame."MTB forever."....C.P. Owens ------------------------------ The Marshall Tucker Band represents a region and era that significantly shaped and continues to influence modern rock music.....Tad Taylor ------------------------------ MTB is right up there with the Grateful Dead,Willie Nelson,&the Rolling Stones, Over the past 30+ years, I have danced to, fallen in love to, cried to, laughed to, & lived a fuller life to their music. The MTB is the epitomy of a truly AMERICAN rock & roll band. Thier music IS the heart & soul of this great nation! Let's get them in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame NOW!.....Catherine Jackson ------------------------------ Marshall Tucker, along with bands like Wet Willie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allmans, CDB, etc brought back Rock and Roll to it's rightful roots. They made us dance, they made us sing, but more than anything they made us Proud to be American. They sang about real things to us. They made us think, made us cry, and laugh. Marshall Tucker Band is America, they are the South. They are Legends!....... Bruce Wall ------------------------------
As you know The
Marshall Tucker Band originated right here in Spartanburg, SC and
evolved into one of the premier live rock bands of their time, touring
the world and selling out Madison Square Gardens for days at a time.
They took the Southern Rock sound established by the Allman Brothers in
Macon, GA and blended it with their own sound and for a time were the
leaders of the Southern Rock movement, inspiring may other southern
bands to Southern Rock fame. But MTB went a step further than being
just another rock band, they added various musical influences such as
gospel, soul, classical, jazz, traditional country, blues, mountain
music, red neck sangin', etc. to the basic rock licks and as a
result transformed rock and roll and country music with levels of
sophistication far beyond what we'd ever heard before. I suspect "the
boys" didn't realized they were leading the way and transforming
American music, but they did. Heck, I didn't know what they were up to
at the time, I just knew they were local guys that were phenomenally
good and put on one hell of a rockin' show way back before Capricorn
Records ever heard of them. From the days of the Rants, to The Toy
Factory Band and Pax Parachute, to The Marshall Tucker Band they were
our bands (along with Uncle Walt's Band) and they were a great bunch of
musicians to grow up around. We were so lucky to have this level of
music in "our town" and the world of music was and still is lucky they
did what they did. I once was in Nashville at a major tribute show and
some big wig music guys said, " Man, all these great talents out of
Spartanburg, SC, there must be something in the water there." The
Marshall Tucker Band was as talented as any Spartanburg has produced......John
